Stealing the Limelight – B2B PR For the Win

It was 2014, and the latest Gartner Magic Quadrant on cloud managed services had just two little dots in that top right “leader” section – Rackspace, the well-known, publicly trade company, and Datapipe, the best IT company you’ve never head of. What’s a B2B company in this position to do? Why, get a PR firm, of course.

When Datapipe came calling, it was for a traditional B2B program – media and analyst relations, speaking engagements, press releases and tradeshows shows. Earning the trust of our client quickly, with wins in the now-defunct Gigaom (big deal for cloud at the time) and Forbes, we were able to layer on more ambitious communication program elements to the traditional PR foundation. A thought leadership program which incorporated social media campaigns led to conversations with the premier Gartner analyst in the space. Joint webinars with partners got media, analysts, influencers, customers, and even other partners excited about what Datapipe was doing.

The momentum has been building for Datapipe and the company has assumed a well-deserved position as a recognized leader in its industry’s Forrester Wave and Gartner Magic Quadrant reports. As the business has grown, so has the communications program. We now write daily blog posts, create all kinds of design pieces, pitch for awards and more speaking engagements, and of course, keep the pedal to the metal on media and analyst relations via news, webinars, newsletters, and social media. What once was traditional PR, is now a full-service marketing program.
